The 2014 Open Preview
On July 17th Golf’s 3rd ‘Major’ will be underway with the game’s biggest names all competing. The field includes former World No. 1’s Tiger Woods and Rory Mcilroy, and the current World No. 1 Adam Scott. Last time the British Open was held at Royal Liverpool was in 2006 when Tiger Woods won by 2 strokes, finishing with an incredible 18 under par. That week Tiger only hit one driver. Crazy. Although Woods is the favorite to win, other players to keep an eye on are Rory Mcilroy, Adam Scott, and the 2014 U.S. Open Champion Martin Kaymer. Sergio Garcia is also considered a favorite, as we can’t forget his T5 in 2006. Last weeks European Tour winner Graeme McDowell is another player to keep an eye out for as he is often near the top of the leaderboard in majors. Other big names that have a chance of walking away with the trophy at Royal Liverpool are Jason Day, Hunter Mahan, Jordan Spieth, Matt Kucher, and 2 time Masters Champion Bubba Watson. Also, don’t count out Ernie Els, winner of the British Open in 2012 and solo 3rd place finisher in 2006. One of my favorite sleepers is 2 time Major Champion and this year Greenbrier Classic winner Angel Cabrera, who finished solo 7th in 2006 at Royal Liverpool. With many outstanding players competing so well going into a Major, anything can happen, which is why I will be watching the entire time!
My pick: Jason Day
