Tiger Woods Designs His First Golf Course, here’s what you need to know!
- The course will be named El Cardonal, located in the Diamante development in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, is expected to open on December 16th.
- Only Diamante homeowners and resort guests able to play the course.
- El Cardonal will play approximately 7,400 yards from the tips but will have many different tee options and locations to suit all different skill levels. The 11th hole is a good example of this as the 220 yard par 3 from the tips, has a very long tee box to cater to lesser skilled players.
- Compared to most desert golf courses, El Cardonal has a lot of landing area for tee shots and large greens on the par 3’s to counter the uneven terrain.
- Tiger Woods was first hired in 2006 to help design a course in Dubai. In 2008, Tiger was hired to design a course in the mountains of North Carolina. Both projects were never completed for many different reasons but mainly due to the worldwide recession in 2008.
- Woods is currently designing a course called Bluejack National, which will be an exclusive private club near Houston and is expected to open in October of 2015.
- The downhill 18th hole measures well over 500 yards with awesome distant sea views. It was intended by Tiger to be a stern par-4 but it was decided that it would be a scorecard-friendly par-5, as the majority of players will be vacationers and amateurs.
- The 2nd hole is a long par 3 with an absurd 10,000 square-foot green.
- Tiger claims that the 4th hole is the most difficult on the course. The 485 yard uphill par 4, has bunkers up the right side of the fairway that cut into the fairway landing area.
