A round of golf can be anywhere from 3-5 hours long, which gives us a lot of time to get hungry and thirsty. Sure golf isn’t the most grueling sport out there, but as far as I am concerned, a round of golf WIPES ME OUT for the rest of the day. That being said, it is crucial to keep energized throughout the round by putting the right foods and liquids into your system.

Top 5 Best Foods

1. Fresh Fruit

They are all deadly- bananas, grapes apples, oranges, etc. The key to fresh fruits is their ability to give you a much needed energy boost, without the crash. They are jam-packed with fiber and nutrients that keep you going strong.

2. Mix Nuts

The skittles of healthy foods. So easy to carry, and even easier to eat. Whether you grab walnuts, pecans, almonds, or something else, you will be getting the necessary energy and protein to keep your swing intact.

3. Hard-Boiled Eggs

Gross right? Well, that actually may be right, but nonetheless, awesome golf snack. Throw one in a plastic ziplock bag, enjoy it on the 6th hole, and pick up a few mph on your swing. They are loaded with protein without spiking your blood sugar.

4. Beef Jerky

Love em. Taste, protein, and energy…you cant go wrong. However, make sure you choose wisely because some beef jerky brands have a tendency to throw sketchy chemicals and crazy amounts of salt into their product.

5. Protein Shakes

This is starting to become a trend, as you can see, but the more protein the better for golf. A well-made protein shake can go a long way for shooting a good score, and feeling energized even after the 18th hole.

Top 5 Worst Foods

1. Hot Dogs

Surprise, surpise! Hot dogs are absolutely horrible for you in general, so having one on the golf course will only magnify that feeling. Aside for the actual ingredients, they are filled with unwanted carbs that make you feel bloated and lazy with your swing. I know they are sold at virtually every halfway house, but there are much better options!

2. Pretzels

Empty calories for days. Enriched-flour products like pretzels will slow you down and make your body crash without you even realizing.

3. Beer

Real tough for me to list beer as a negative, but as far as pure golf performance goes, you will feel bloated and sluggish….big time. Save the beer for the 19th hole!

4. Sports Drinks

Have you ever looked at the back of a sports drink nutrition label? Take a look.

5. Fruit Juice

Seems great in theory, but it isn’t. They measure off the charts in regards to artificial sweetener levels, and will only make you crash soon after. Stick to water!

What do you drink/eat on the course?
