The BMW championship is all about placement. For players with an outside chance of making it to East Lake, they need to place in the top 5-10 to get enough points to move ahead in the rankings. For players already near the top of the FedEx rankings, they need to focus on getting into, or staying in, the top 5 heading into next week. Either way, there may be some players on tilt this week as they look to make the final push heading into the Championship. Should be a great weekend of golf!

How it works:

  • My Guy: If I’m picking in a one-golfer league, and had to just pick one…he’s the guy.
  • Stripes: “Man, I was striping it today” as the big guy (TW) likes to say. Call these guys my “favorites” each week.
  • Wildcard: All in the name. Enough said.
  • Shank: I hate to even say this word, especially on a golf course, so as you can imagine these are guys to avoid.

My Guy:

Rory McIlroy

  • He’s been out of the spotlight for too long, and too many people are writing him off in lieu of Spieth and Day.
  • No stats needed to back up this pick. He wants a FedEx Cup. He needs to be in top 5 going into next week. Good chance he wins this weekend.
  • Finished at TPC Boston with a Sunday 66, making 6 birdies

Stripes:

Henrik Stenson

  • Been knocking for too long to not put one away.
  • Last 4 Starts: T6, T25, 2, 2
  • He deserves to be in top 5 next week, but may need a win this week to get there.

Rickie Fowler

  • Red hot coming off his win at the Deutsche Bank Championship two weeks ago
  • 8th in the all-around ranking this season has put Rickie in 3rd for the FedEx and 5th for the Official World Golf Ranking
  • Will ride the momentum from TPC Boston to a strong finish this week at Conway Farms

Jim Furyk

  • Quietly finished with a T4 in the last playoff event at TPC Boston
  • Shot an amazing 59 here at Conway Farms just two years ago where he finished in third place
  • Jimbo will be in contention if he is putting well

Wildcard:

Sergio Garcia

  • Hasn’t made an appearance yet in this year’s playoffs, and is banking on a solid performance at Conway Farms to make it to the Championship (sitting 54th).
  • Knowing Sergio, adding pressure to a tournament doesn’t usually work out that well…

Shank:

Jimmy Walker

  • Surprising to see him on this list, but hasn’t shown much form of late
  • Good news (or bad news depending on how you look at it) He’s sitting at 11th in the FedEx Cup, so doesn’t need to do much to get to East Lake
  • Last 4 starts: T53, CUT, T69, CUT
