This week we have the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, TX. The field is quite strong this year with some of the favorites being local Texans (i.e., Spieth, Palmer, Walker). While the Colonial has plenty of history, it really is considered a stock par 70 golf course measuring at 7,204 yards and with relatively tight fairways.
Last year’s event culminated in a playoff as Adam Scott defeated Jason Dufner in extra holes. The way this season is going we would not be surprised if this year’s event required more than 72 holes as well!
Feel free to contact us with suggestions on fantasy content and enjoy the weekend!
How it works:
- My Guy: If I’m picking in a one-golfer league, and had to just pick one…he’s the guy.
- Stripes: “Man, I was striping it today” as the big guy (TW) likes to say. Call these guys my “favorites” each week.
- Wildcard: All in the name. Enough said.
- Shank: I hate to even say this word, especially on a golf course, so as you can imagine these are guys to avoid.
My Guy:
Jimmy Walker
- Native Texan loves playing in his home state; finished in the top 10 last year
- 1st on the PGA Tour in strokes gained putting
- One of the hottest players on Tour this year – 2nd in the FedEx Cup standings
- 2nd on the PGA Tour in birdies-or-better percentage
Stripes:
Ryan Palmer
- Local resident is making his 12th straight appearance at this event
- Shot an incredible 62 in the first round of the 2013 event
- Was extremely hot with the irons earlier this year, we’ll see if he can get them going in his home state
Zach Johnson
- All-time earnings leader at Colonial
- Two-time champ and top 10s every year from 2009-2013
- First two bullets alone warrant an obvious ZJ pick for this one
Chris Kirk
- Perfect record here (5-5) with three top 20s
- In strong form – 17th at the Cadillac Matchplay and 13th at the PLAYERS
Wildcards:
Boo Weekly
- 2013 champion at Colonial
- Solo third place finish at the Zurich Classic four weeks ago
- T16 last week at the Wells Fargo Championship
Shank:
Ian Poulter
- Hasn’t played this event since 2010
- Cooled off over the last three events since his impressive showing at the Masters
- 130th on the Tour in driving distance and only 54th in driving accuracy (which he needs considering his lack of distance)
