This week the PGA Tour heads to Muirfield Village for Jack Nicklaus’ Memorial Tournament. As usual, thanks to its honorable host, the event has drawn a strong field with Spieth, Rose, Fowler, Day and Dustin Johnson headlining. Tiger will be in the mix as well, playing in his first tournament since the PLAYERS and only his fifth of 2015.
This should be a fun event to watch as Muirfield Village always proves challenging for the players. It has ranked as the hardest par 72 course (non-major) on the PGA Tour for the past two years.

How it works:
- My Guy: If I’m picking in a one-golfer league, and had to just pick one…he’s the guy.
- Stripes: “Man, I was striping it today” as the big guy (TW) likes to say. Call these guys my “favorites” each week.
- Wildcard: All in the name. Enough said.
- Shank: I hate to even say this word, especially on a golf course, so as you can imagine these are guys to avoid.
My Guy:
Justin Rose
- Unbelievable record at Muirfield Village – winner in 2010, T2 in 2008 and four additional top 15 finishes
- Winner of the Zurich Classic just about a month ago
- 6th on the PGA Tour in average birdies per round (4.29)
- Looks to improve upon his ranking (6th) in the OWGR in an event he loves
Stripes:
Rickie Fowler
- Solo second place finish at Muirfield Village in 2010
- First start on the PGA Tour since his big win at Sawgrass
- Solid showing in Ireland last week in challenging conditions
Bill Haas
- Top 10s at the Memorial Tournament in 2013 and 2014
- Tied for 4th at the PLAYERS
- Hard to find a statistic that really jumps out at you for Haas (12th on Tour in driving efficiency?), but after a dip which followed his win earlier this year, trending in the right direction at a place he’s proven himself at in the past.
Hideki Matsayuma
- Defending champion – led last year’s event in strokes gained: tee-to-green and proximity to hole
- Seven top 10s this year
- Lots of impressive statistics this year – 9th in GIR, 10th in scrambling, and 3rd in bogey avoidance
Wildcards:
Kevin Kisner
- Three top 5’s in his last five starts (including to P2’s)
- Not a lot of inspiring stats, but #1 on Tour for hole outs (17) should count for something
Shank:
Nick Watney
- Outside of last week, has been on a tear of MC’s
- Also has 3 MC’s in last 4 showings at Muirfield
