GolfMatch got it right again last week as we rode our Jason Day pick across the finish line on Sunday. What a performance, and what a tournament. America is back on top of the world golf rankings, and if that doesn’t get you excited maybe you’re not American. Moving on…this week brings Tiger back onto the course after he missed his 3rd straight cut at a major – a feat that most other ‘greats’ didn’t do until they got their AARP cards. The storylines and fireworks likely won’t live up to last weekend’s magic, but it’s an important weekend none-the-less. Enjoy!

Feel free to contact us with suggestions on fantasy content and enjoy the weekend!

How it works:

  • My Guy: If I’m picking in a one-golfer league, and had to just pick one…he’s the guy.
  • Stripes: “Man, I was striping it today” as the big guy (TW) likes to say. Call these guys my “favorites” each week.
  • Wildcard: All in the name. Enough said.
  • Shank: I hate to even say this word, especially on a golf course, so as you can imagine these are guys to avoid.

My Guy:

Brooks Koepka

  • Has missed just one cut this year (Players Champ)
  • Top 25 in 7 of last 8 events, including T6 at WGC, T5 at PGA Champ
  • Top 10 on Tour in: Driving distance (7), Strokes Gained: Putting (3), Strokes Gained: Total (8), Eagles (1), Scoring Average (3), All-around (5).
  • A winner already this year (WM), and has been knocking on the door ever since.

Stripes:

Branden Grace

  • He’s just due for a win on American soil, right?
  • Solo third place finish at the PGA Championship
  • 8th on Tour in putting and scrambling this season

Hideki Matsuyama

  • Has established that he’s a contender in any tournament.
  • Relatively weak finishes at the majors this year don’t look as bad when you look at some of the birdie-fest stretches he was able to put together.
  • He tends to buckle a bit in the biggest tournaments, but in a much weaker field this week, he’s on the top of our list of likely contenders.

Paul Casey

  • Strong form this season – 22nd in the FedEx Cup standings
  • Hasn’t missed a cut in the 10 tournaments he’s played in since March
  • 5th on Tour in greens in regulation percentage
  • 10th strokes gained tee-to-green

Wildcard:

Tiger Woods

  • He’s got to get it going at some point right?
  • This could be the one considering he won’t feel the pressures of a major championship
  • T18 at the Quicken Loans National

Shank:

Jason Dufner

  • Has anyone even seen him on coverage lately? Does he still play?
  • His play has paralleled the decline in his trendiness.
