This week we head to Gainesville, Virginia for the Quicken Loans National at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club. While this is the first PGA Tour event to be held at the course, it has served as host of the Presidents Cup several times in recent history. Two-time champion and tournament host, Tiger Woods, will be in the field this week. We’ll see if he can bounce back from a disappointing Open Championship two weeks ago.
Feel free to contact us with suggestions on fantasy content and enjoy the weekend!
How it works:
- My Guy: If I’m picking in a one-golfer league, and had to just pick one…he’s the guy.
- Stripes: “Man, I was striping it today” as the big guy (TW) likes to say. Call these guys my “favorites” each week.
- Wildcard: All in the name. Enough said.
- Shank: I hate to even say this word, especially on a golf course, so as you can imagine these are guys to avoid.
My Guy:
Justin Rose
- Defending champion at this event
- T6 at the Open Championship and a second place finish at the Memorial in June
- Strong form this season, 15th in the FedEx Cup standings, 3rd on Tour in birdie average, 7th in the all-around ranking
Stripes:
Johnson Wagner
- On a bit of a roll over the past month: T5 (John Deere Classic), T10 (Barbasol Championship) and T18 (RBC Canadian Open)
- 18th in greens in regulation
Jimmy Walker
- Playing great golf this season – 3rd in the FedEx Cup standings
- Two wins, two second place finishes and six top 10s this season
- 1st on Tour in strokes gained: putting, 4th in birdie average and 5th in strokes gained: total
Rickie Fowler
- Two wins in his last 6 starts as he recently won the Scottish Open
- A bit inconsistent with a T30 at the Open and two missed cuts in June after his huge PLAYERS championship
- Looks to get back in the winner’s circle with a relatively light field at RTJ Golf Club
Wildcard:
Pat Perez
- Ten consecutive cuts made on the PGA Tour
- 9 top 25 finishes including a T5 at the Crowne Plaza Invitational
- 15th on Tour in birdie average and 41st in greens in regulation
Shank:
Robert Garrigus
- Missed last two cuts at the RBC Canadian Open and the Barbasol Championship
- Long hitter, but cannot find fairways – 163rd on Tour in driving accuracy
- Wild off the tee combined with terrible putting – 188th in strokes gained: putting
