The PGA Tour regular season has come to a close as the first FedEx Cup playoff event gets underway this week at The Barclays. While Tiger’s strong showing Thursday through Saturday was not enough to get him into the field of 125, we’ll still have the world’s best this week in Edison, NJ. The par-70 golf course should provide a solid test of golf for the pros.
We hope you all enjoy the first playoff event of the year. Comment below if you’ll be going to the tournament. We’ll be there on Sunday!

- How it works:
- My Guy: If I’m picking in a one-golfer league, and had to just pick one…he’s the guy.
- Stripes: “Man, I was striping it today” as the big guy (TW) likes to say. Call these guys my “favorites” each week.
- Wildcard: All in the name. Enough said.
- Shank: I hate to even say this word, especially on a golf course, so as you can imagine these are guys to avoid.
My Guy:
Justin Rose
- This guy is near top form right now
- No worse than a 6th place finish in his last five starts
- Experience at Plainfield – T6 at this event in 2011
- 8th in GIR, 5th in Strokes Gained: Total and Tee-to-Green
Stripes:
Brooks Koepka
- Our guy from last week didn’t disappoint. Has been on a fantastic run of golf this summer and is bound to win another event soon
- Top 18 in 8 of last 9 events, including T6 at WGC, T5 at PGA Champ, T6 at Wyndham
- Top 10 on Tour in: Driving distance (7), Strokes Gained: Putting (3), Strokes Gained: Total (8), Eagles (1), Scoring Average (3), All-around (5)
Jason Day
- Hate to keep taking the same guy, but Jason is on top of the golf world right now
- Two wins in his last three starts. Has performed well in big events all year.
- Scoring machine – leads the PGA Tour in birdies or better
Bill Haas
- Been hinting at solid form past few weeks including two top 10’s (QL, Wyndham)
- Not a lot of powerful stats to back up this pick, but more of a gut feeling
Wildcard:
Paul Casey
- Mainly a wildcard because he hasn’t actually won on Tour yet this year, but certainly trending towards a “W”
- 7 top 10’s this season includes a T3 last week at Wyndham
Shank:
Billy Horschel
- Hasn’t cracked a T25 since June
- Missed cut last week in NC shows his game is not where it was last year during his epic run
- Is currently safe to make it through first 2 weeks of playoffs (sits 48th in FedEx), so pressure won’t really be on until next week
