The Bridgestone Invitational brings the PGA Tour to Akron, Ohio for one of the toughest events of the season. The course measures a meaty 7,400 yards, making it the longest par-70 golf course on the schedule. Hole #16 is the longest hole on Tour at an astounding 667 yards. Long hitters should have the advantage in what will likely be a very entertaining tournament with the best players in the world coming to Ohio!

How it works:

  • My Guy: If I’m picking in a one-golfer league, and had to just pick one…he’s the guy.
  • Stripes: “Man, I was striping it today” as the big guy (TW) likes to say. Call these guys my “favorites” each week.
  • Wildcard: All in the name. Enough said.
  • Shank: I hate to even say this word, especially on a golf course, so as you can imagine these are guys to avoid.

My Guy:

Rickie Fowler

  • Rickie is on fire – solo 2nd last week at the Quicken Loans
  • Two wins in his last seven starts worldwide
  • Two top ten finishes at this event, including a T8 in 2014

Stripes:

Sergio Garcia

  • Solo 2nd last year at Firestone where he set a course record – 61
  • Finished 6th in his last two starts in July and a solo 2nd finish at the PLAYERS
  • 4th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained: tee-to-green and 4th in scoring average

Jordan Spieth

  • This guy is a must-pick week in and week out
  • Leads the Tour in adjusted scoring and is #1 in the FedEx Cup standings
  • There is no stopping Jordan – Last four tournaments: T3 at the Memorial, Win at U.S. Open, Win at John Deere Classic, and T4 at Open Championship

Jason Day

  • Won the RBC Canadian Open just a few weeks ago
  • Has plenty of length in his game to match the length of the course
  • Key stats: 2nd in Driving distance and 1st in birdie average

Wildcard:

Jim Furyk

  • Has been quiet this year, but still making runs up leaderboards
  • Sits 11th in driving accuracy and 7th in Strokes Gained: tee-to-green
  • Top 5 finish in Canadian Open just 2 weeks back

Shank:

Camilo Villegas

  • Hard to find a shank in a WGC event, but he fits the mold here
  • No top 10 finishes on Tour this season, missed 2 of 3 cuts including last week at Quicken Loans, and has been cut or W/D from nearly 50% of the tournaments he’s played this season
